Columbus Crew Announces “Massive” Rebranding Initiative

At a press conference this morning, Columbus Crew Imperial Wizard of Public Relations, Heinrich Heydrich unveiled a new logo that he says will “better align the team with its core fan base.”

When asked if he felt the new logo might alienate minorities, Heydrich responded “well, we tried throwing bananas at them, we tried yelling at them, if this doesn’t send the message I frankly don’t know what will.”

Edit: I’ve been informed by some readers that they have taken offense with this post. Although it was intended to be satire I can see where they are coming from and would like to apologize. I sincerely did not mean to offend any Klansmen by linking them to the Columbus Crew fan base.

Who would you like to see as our last form of defence on Saturday?

Earlier on today we ran a poll on who you would like to see in goal for Arsenal when we take on league leaders Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

That choice just got easier, as Arsene Wenger revealed this evening that Jens Lehmann will be out of action for at least a fortnight after tweaking a long standing Achilles injury.

Prior to that disclosure, however, you’d already voted Lehmann as your third choice goalie. When the poll was closed down, Spaniard Manuel Almunia had pulled in 38% of the votes, Polish international Lukasz Fabianski had attracted 33% of your votes and Mad Jens was languishing in last place with 29%.

Now you have just two keepers to choose from, so all loyalty to our German stopper can, temporarily at least, go out the window.

The poll, brought to you by our friends at Polldaddy.com, could not be simpler to use. Choose who you would like to see as Arsenal’s goalkeeper on Saturday, click the corresponding button, and Robert is your father’s brother.

No excuses, even if you’re feeling a bit lethargic, a click of the mouse is all it takes. The poll closes at 4.30pm BST tomorrow and we’ll publish the results thereafter.

Nery Castillo Makes Chicago Fire Debut

On Sunday, August 8, 2010, Mexican international Nery Castillo made his much-anticipated debut for the Chicago Fire against the New Jersey Metrobulls at Toyota Park.

Castillo was inserted into the lineup by coach Carlos de los Cobos in the 56th minute with much fanfare (including a league-first fireworks display to mark a substitution). Despite missing the first 16 games of the season, Castillo has already assumed the team lead in offsides calls.
